EF Ecoflow Delta 2 Review

The ambient temperature was around 25 to 30 celcius for all tests. Here are the pro and cons that I noticed:

Pros:
– Does actually allow use of full 1,800 Watts of power output. I confirmed it with around 1840 Watts of continuous resistive (heater) load for around 25 minutes (more on this in cons). It only supplied 0.75 kWh of output but that is expected at high load.
– At 950 watts resistive load, it supplied 0.88 kWh of output.
– It has many USB ports, couple of 12V DC ports and a car cigarette lighter socket.
– You can set charge limits, charge using solar power (panels to be bought separately, haven’t tested this myself).

Cons:
– You can’t connect 6A plugs directly to it as it doesn’t have Indian standard sockets and you will need to buy adapters. I am using it with a 16A extension cord due to this.
– The unit’s fan runs at high speed if being used at a load greater than 500-600 Watts even when the battery is not being charged / is fully charged. The fan is load enough that you don’t want to be close to it.
– The switchover time from main’s AC to inverter mode is large enough to trip inverter AC to stop cooling for a couple of minutes to let the compressor’s pressure normalize. This didn’t happen each time though and was more frequent at higher loads but I would not use it for desktop PC etc.
– The mains neutral is isolated / disconnected from output’s neutral, so if you want to use it in place of an existing interver, make sure you supply neutral wire from output of Delta 2 as well. ie: the normal way of only connecting phase wire from inverter’s output won’t work.
– When used at 1,850 watts, the unit shut down after around 25 minutes due to battery overheating. The ambient temperature was between 25 to 30 celsius. The battery took more than 4 hours to cool down before it could be charged.
– The battery overheated even at load of 950 watts resistive load and reached 52 celcius until it was fully discharged and took couple of hours of cool down.
– The unit can’t be charged when the battery is above 45 celcius, however it can’t even supply power when connected to input mains AC power in overheated state. You basically have to wait for the battery to cool down before you can use it in any way.

Basically, the unit is great if you will use the unit at low power levels or infrequently at high load. Do take into consideration the overheating issue if you want to use it in inverter / battery mode for high power loads.
